Strong earthquake and tsunami caused great casualties and property loss in Indonesia, India, and Thailand and some other Asian countries. The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to Sierra Leone expressed sympathy and solicitude to these countries in the earthquake and tsunami in Indian Ocean for their losses and shall provide humanitarian support and assistance within its capacity to the disaster countries hit by tsunami caused by the earthquake.

In order to express the friendly sentiments of all the Chinese people in Sierra Leone and help people in disaster area fight against natural disasters to save themselves, in the afternoon on January 3, 2005, the officials in our Chinese Embassy and staff, including the newly established Chinese chamber of Commerce in Sierra Leone and all the Chinese enterprises in Sierra Leone, made donations for tsunami affected countries to alleviate enormous losses that the disaster caused. This free-will donation embodied all our sentiments, hoping disaster-stricken countries recovered and start reconstruction of their home land soon. Up to now, the amount of donation has exceeded USD 6,000.00. We sincerely believed governments of these countries and people can unquestionably conquer the disasters, overcome the difficulties and rebuild their home.
